GEC Carolers Spread Holiday Cheer

GEC Carolers Spread Holiday Cheer

The GEC choir, or GEC Glee as they sometimes like to be called, is comprised of approximately 30 adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities under the leadership of Music Coordinator Ally Torres. The group has been rehearsing twice a week since early November, preparing for a busy season of music and cheer. The group performed a number of carols including Jingle Bells, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, and their signature number, We Wish You a Merry Christmas. This year they have performed at a number of community events in anticipation of the holidays.

On November 30, the group performed at the Neighborhood Improvement Association’s Christmas Tree Lighting at John Paul Jones (Cannonball) Park. The event was sponsored by Council Member Justin Brannan, Senator Andrew Gounardes, and Senator Iwen Chu. On December 6, the group performed at the Christmas Tree Lighting at Owl’s Head Park, run by another local organization, Bay Ridge Cares, and sponsored by Council Member Brannan. Both events drew record crowds. On December 12, GEC Glee performed at the Dyker Heights Civic Association's year end meeting and holiday party. At all 3 events the earnestness and enthusiasm of the GEC participants was abundant and contagious, spreading the holiday spirit to very appreciative friends and neighbors. A great time was had by all! Happy Holidays Everyone!
