From May 26th to June 16th, GEC held their Step Up for GEC fundraiser, an event encouraging members of our programs, staff, families, and community members to walk or run in support of GEC. Those who registered in advance got a Step Up tee shirt and a raffle entry for dinner at Mama Rao's. Although participants were able to walk or run anytime during the 3 week event, there were also two amazing in-person groups walks - one in Bay Ridge and one in Dyker Heights.
On June 1, the walk began at the Knights of Columbus, with our Without Walls and Fischetti Center day hab programs leading the way through Dyker Heights. After the spirited walk, over 30 participants enjoyed lunch on the patio at the Knights. Two weeks later on June 18th, the final walk kicked off from GEC's main building. GEC's Bay Ridge day hab programs and staff walked from 3rd Avenue to Owl's Head Park, and then to the pier. The energetic group of 65 returned to the main building and enjoyed a delicious outdoor barbecue hosted by the Mastronardi program. The Step Up for GEC event was a healthy and fun way to be in the community and to support GEC!
