In January, core training was held for 18 new members of GEC’s staff. This mandatory training provides information on a wide range of topics, including the history of GEC and services for people with I/DD, person centered thinking, first aid, abuse prevention, and the many benefits available to GEC employees. It helps ready our staff to understand how and why their preparedness can improve their own experience, the experience of the individuals they are working with, and meet the overall mission of GEC. This training took place over five afternoons and topics were presented by many of our administrators, who fielded questions and moderated conversation on the topics from the engaged group. Upon completion of the training, they were presented with a certificate and had a better understanding of the many important facets of their jobs.
