Congratulations to Garnett Brown for being the recipient of November's Outstanding Achievement Award. Very early one recent morning, Garnett walked into work and was confronted with an extremely chaotic situation. He immediately assessed what was happening and acted in a calm, self-assured manner, without regard for his own safety. He responded with clarity and purpose and his reassuring demeanor and supportive words were crucial to a swift resolution.
What was truly remarkable, though, was not just Garnett’s quick reaction. It was the way he engaged with the person in crisis: he spoke to him gently and he reassured him. He assisted the individual in calming down and regaining control of himself through his gentle manner, calming words, and soothing song. His compassion protected the dignity of the young man involved. And his presence of mind helped bring the situation back under control.
It is clear that Garnett's approach made a significant difference in the outcome of the situation. He went beyond his usual job responsibilities and stepped in when he was needed, which are qualities we value in all GEC staff.
